A lot of people trooped out despite the heavy downpour to celebrate the International Workers Day at the Agege Stadium, Agege, Lagos state. It took place on Monday,1st of May, 2017, with the prescence of the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Governor Akinwunmi  Ambode.

The Governor, in his remarks addressed the issue of phasing out the yellow buses “Danfo” in response to the fears raised by the Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Lagos Council, Comrade Idowu Adelakun, that it may cause job losses. He responded that it would only create more jobs as the drivers, technicians, mechanics will be trained and employed. He also stated that it would make it comfortable to move from one point to another in Lagos.

He also assured his administration would improve Workers welfare and fast track the payment of pensions. He also declared his administration will provide a befitting secretariat for NLC as part of 50 years celebration.

The event was awesome and colourful as the unions made a March past. They were all excited to see the Governor celebrate with them.
