After a long-winded legal battle to halt it from being sold, Madonna’s love letter from Tupac Shakur is finally going on the auctioneers block.
And due to the hype around the document – which Tupac wrote the Lucky Star singer from prison – the value has soared, with experts predicting it will be sold for in excess of $300k.
The opening bid alone is $100k, set by memorabilia company Gotta Have Rock & Roll.
Bidding kicks off on July 17, online, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to breastcancer.org.
Madonna lost her appeal to freeze the auction of the letter, reported last month.
The break-up letter from the late rap star, dated January 1995, reveals he ended their relationship because he feared dating a white woman could jeopardize his career.
In June, the New York State Appeals Court ruled Madonna can’t sue her former friend Darlene Lutz for selling the letter to an online auction house after she filed for an emergency court order last July to stop the sale of letters, photos, a hairbrush, and even a pair of panties that she had once worn.
A Manhattan Supreme Court judge ruled in April that Madonna’s former friend Darlene Lutz could give the items to auction house Gotta Have It Collectibles.
And now it looks like the sale will go ahead after all.
